Field Notes

Description:

One of the few egg-laying mammals, those spines are really sharp!

Notes:

This echidna had wandered into a bowling club, and we were called to rescue it (or the bowlers) and return it to nearby bushland. Most photos don't show their cute face or long claws

they produce milk through their skin (underbelly) i believe as well as laying eggs
Sad to say that was my arm (the other hand was holding the camera). It was OK, and after a quick check-up was released into the bush.
Is that a bare human arm getting those spines poked into it? Yikes! painful. Perhaps a good pair of welding gloves are in order for wildlife rescuers who deal with spiny critters? Was it ok, just lost?
