Field Notes

Description:

This small fish can be identified by the vertical bars along its side. Also notable is the black spot behind the gill cover. The anterior dorsal fin is spiny. These are popular bait fish.

Habitat:

Seagrass beds (especially for younger fish), mangroves, bridges, piers, pilings, and reefs. This fish was spotted by a piling on the FL gulf coast.
