Field Notes

Description:

White delicate flowers that look like a lace doily. It is actually wild carrot.

Habitat:

Here it is growing on the creek's edge and because of heavy rains this week, the creek is up and flowing faster than typical. The creek grass is bent over in the current and higher than normal water flow. If the river stays high for long enough, the grass will stay bent when the creek level subsides. the grass is a very important filter and habitat providing protection for smaller animals and nesting critters, if the patch is large enough. If the rains keep the water level too high, the grass will die out, and wash downstream, providing nutrients to the plants downstream.
