Field Notes

Description:

Large brownish goose with long black neck. Typically seen in pairs.

Habitat:

Over the last 40 years, these have become very common year round residents of Long Island. Never saw them much as a child. These are at the beach but they are in many open grassy areas, ball fields, etc. to the point of having become a nuisance here.

Oops - we have ended up calling them "Canadian geese" here probably because they are so plentiful - and maybe we wish more of them would head back up north.....
I think they are actually called Canada Goose.
