Field Notes

Description:

This butterfly has seasonal coloring. A first generation, born in the spring has the inner part of their wings mostly orange with black patterns. The summer generation is mostly black as in my pictures. Apparently the light and temperature difference influences the color of the butterfly while it is in the pupa stage.

Habitat:

Prairies, grasslands, stinging nettles plants.

Notes:

University campus Kortowo-Olsztyn.
