Field Notes

Description:

Shades of mottled brown. Three dark bands on tail. Numerous skin flaps on body.

Habitat:

Inhabit sand, sea grass and areas where algae is prevalent. Lie motionless looking more like algae-covered rocks than fish.

Notes:

Apparently relying on camouflage, do not move unless molested. Puncture wounds from venomous spines of foredorsal fin can cause severe pain and illness.

Great looking, better tasting in soup! Mediteraneans people of all nationalities know this one and some of it's cousin species ( red scorpion fish) as a delicacy.. Nice shot
