Turk’s Cap or Sleeping Hibiscus
Malvaviscus arboreus
29.7734, -90.8097
Field Notes
Description:
Broad star shaped leaves with vibrant red flower that looks like an unopened hibiscus flower. According to Wikipedia it is the host for caterpillars of the Turk’s-cap White-Skipper.
Habitat:
Woods.
Notes:
There was a group of small plants tallest being about 24 inches (60cm). The flowers were only about 2 inches (5cm) including the stigma. I’m assuming this was a group of young plants.
