Description:

I was thrilled to see this bird since it is a life list bird for me. I only wish I had my other lens with me. The red headed woodpecker has an full head covered with red feathers, along with a neat and tidy solid black back and white - no striping. It is a very distinctive bird

Habitat:

open woodlands

We used to put peanut kernels in our feeder in New Jersey and a Red-headed Woodpecker would come regularly. He was on the Hotline in Philadelphia for awhile so birders could come see him.
You have a real red-headed woodpecker there, Congratulations!
