Thank you Constanza and welcome to Project Noah!
@Emma..Your link is interesting..!!
http://www.allaboutbirds.org/page.aspx?pid=1054 Good website to learn how to ID birds.
Thats a good opportunity for photos! Emma.
pyoung, six hummingbird species have been known to migrate thru San Franscisco from June to Sept. Six hummingbird species are possible River Preserve feeders in July, August, & early September with over one thousand hummingbirds present some days: Black-chinned (numbers decrease from July through early September), Anna's, Costa's (low numbers), Calliope (rarely), Rufous (peak numbers in late August & early September), and Allen's (virtually impossible to separate from Rufous, even adult males, except during banding sessions).
I am more inclined to identify as a Female Ruby throated accept that Ruby throated is not our local species. I will have to check the migratory route of these birds. pyoung , i think that it is not a violet crowned ,for the simple reason that its beak is not orange.
Thanks Ashish! There were so many hummingbirds that I felt I hit a jackpot. i really enjoyed this spotting! :)
Nice efforts Emma..!!
Its very exciting to find a rare bird! Good Job!
The red flowers attracts the hummingbirds. Thanks for the Id. All the time that I have been here , I have spotted Mr and Mrs Annas only . So this really is the first time I saw these.
http://fohn.net/hummingbird-pictures/violet-crowned-hummingbird.html Thats cool Emma! I would go back and keep taking photos of these birds! I wonder if they migrate? The hummingbirds down in Florida migrate to Mexico and South America.
Yes Medi ,the flowers are lovely.
The tree had lovely red flowers: Erythrina crista-galli http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Erythrina_crista-galli
This hummingbird is rare, but regular in canyons south of Tucson.
this tree had very lovely red flowers and it had so many hummingbirds. these hummingbirds were just black and white. It also had a downy's woodpecker flying back and forth. Right next to our main post office!
This is one of your best bird photos! You should put it the best photo contest!
Thanks pyoung for you encouragement and kind words!
