Field Notes

Description:

Not the greatest photos...and a little intimate..., but you get the idea. They put out their legs perpendicular to their bodies when they feel threatened (as you can sort of see in the first photo).

Habitat:

These ones were in a woody, but urban area near a stream, but I've seen them in a rural park that's woody with a man-made pond.

Notes:

I'd also love to ID the flower you can see through the leaf in the third picture.

Species ID Suggestions

Japanese Beetle

Popillia japonica

Japanese beetle

Comments (1)

It's tough to find these NOT having an intimate moment! They're also invasive. As for the flower, I can't tell from the third picture, but maybe others who are better botanists than I am can.
