Field Notes

Description:

The Blue-tailed Damselfly, Ischnura elegans, is a European damselfly.
Adult male Blue-tailed Damselflies have a head and thorax patterned with blue and black. They have a largely black abdomen with very narrow pale markings where each segment joins the next. Segment eight, however, is entirely pale blue.

Habitat:

Mixed forest near water.

Notes:

I wonder what kind of damselfly this is. Although it's probably rather commen I've never seen the color mixture (blue tail and red body).

@Auntnance123 Thanks for the suggestion. Although it was helpful I don't think it was correct (most of the Enallagma don't live in Western Europe). It did lead however to the Blue-tailed Damselfly, Ischnura elegans. I'll update the ID.
Just guessing: orange bluet (Enallagma signatum). ran across the name search for an ID for a similar damselfly here in Florida
