Great Blue Heron
Ardea herodias wardi
30.3846, -86.5147
Field Notes
Description:
This was the skinniest of the three Herons? I saw. It also had the most white on the underside and neck. He seemed to lack the chin/neck feathers and coloring. He was also way back from the tips of "The Point" which I am assuming was a less desirable fishing vantage point. I'm thinking he was a juvenile perhaps because he kept looking at the big Heron? at the end of The Point.
Habitat:
"There are five subspecies:
Ardea herodias wardi Ridgway, 1882. Kansas and Oklahoma to northern Florida. Sightings in southeastern Georgia have occurred." Wikipedia
