I was searching for the caterpillar and I should have looked for the moth, I guess...I spent quite a while trying to find it. I came up with similar species but it was never just right.
Thank YOU; that was a fun search. The fuzzy ones are pretty difficult--you never know if one's just having a 'bad hair' day. I saw so many that were so, so similar.
I think you got it auntnance! Thanks everyone for the help.
I took a pic of one of these a few weeks ago but I wasn't sure if it was really just a dandelion that had gone to seed! :) Cool capture...he's actually rather cute.
or, since it was found under oaks, it could be the laugher moth, charadra deridens
That's a beautiful fella! (whatever he might be)
It could be an Actiidae caterpillar, but is really really hard to be sure with inmature lepidopterans. It's usually necessary to watch the crochets ("legs") on the stereoscope.
auntnance...look how long those hairs are. I did submit it to Bugscope but no ID as of yet.
Interesting! It looks like it has eyes!
Thanks Nicholas & Alice. Funny, Nicholas....it is rather Don Kingish!
Wow, you came up with a doozy. I am glad you were careful about touching it.
Wow! Looks like it tried to mimic Don King or is it vice-versa?? Gorgeous!
