Field Notes

Description:

American Black ducks are similar to mallards in size, and resemble the female mallard in coloration, although the black duck's plumage is darker. What I love most about these ducks (and about most duck species) is the sense of family. This group of ducks seemed to be joined with a string, so if one floated too far down the river, the rest followed. So great.
