These plants are used inside a lot, in offices too. These bumpy things drop pollen all over the place. Some people cut them off at the edge of the bumpy thing. That way the white flower stays for a while, but there isn't pollen all over. I've also seen these used as plants with fish tanks under them. They seem to like "wet" roots.
