I would guess female in this particular critter. Anoles are a family (or subfamily depending on who you ask) of lizards that are common in the New World and closely related to iguanas.
You're very welcome! What caught my attention was your question about anoles. That seems to be most of what I find around here. I hope the links do help. Today, I caught a brown anole going though a color change but have yet to post the sequence. You might find it interesting. Should be up in the next couple of days.
MitchRay, Are you thinking female? I would have loved to see more of the blue coloration on the back if you're thinking it is a male.

Any particular reason you're thinking this is a Garden Lizard? I'm definitely thinking something in the Genus Scleroporus, possibly a Western Fence Lizard (Scleroporus occidentalis)
