Field Notes

Description:

7cm long, 11cm wing span. Eyes touch in centre of head for approx 5mm. Back of head is straight and flat. Eye colour is dull greenish brown. Wings are completely clear except for pterostigmata. Wing membrane has amber shades very close to attachment. Thorax is brown with two diagonal (up towards the back) white stripes. Abdomen has 9 segments each separated by black ring and each with a double blue dot at back edge. Segments are smaller towards rear. Larger segments have brown, blue, white and black patterned markings.

Habitat:

River/lake valley in Prairies

Notes:

These were very numerous at Echo Lake in the Qu'appelle valley.
