Partridge Pea
Chamaecrista fasciculata
28.0899, -82.524
Field Notes
Description:
Legume species native to the Eastern U.S. Grows about 4 feet tall with feathery foliage. Yellow flowers begin in mid-July in Central Florida and continue for several months. followed by pea-like pods containing seeds. Host plant for sulphur butterfly caterpillars.
Habitat:
Disturbed open areas
Notes:
Grows prolifically from seed. From two plants last year, I now have about 20, but they are all in the same area where the original plants were and easy to remove, so this plant is easily controlled when necessary.
