I mentioned exact specie of Lorquin's Admiral butterfly with another link.

Also, looking at the pictures of the sister family, I see that their red tips are surrounded by brown and the lorquin's goes to the edge of the wing

Given that the source I used did not show California Sister as a local species, I"m thinking Lorquin's is the best ID. We're supposed to have both butterflies where I live and I've never seen the Sister, just the admiral
