Field Notes

Description:

This seagull was almost all white with a black beak and a few black tail feathers, and little grey on the wings. It looks grey in the pictures, but that was the camera. In the last two shots, it is interesting how the bird looped the edge of its wing to turn, glide, and dive quickly.

Habitat:

near shore, ocean and salt water, and Bays and brackish bayou waters.

Notes:

These birds will eat humans and if hungry enough, steal food out of human's hands, especially if feeding them loaves of bread and only a piece or two left.

They usually eat small fish.

Species ID Suggestions

Laughing Gull

Leucophaeus atricilla
