Field Notes

Description:

Heart shaped leaves on vines with hooks that scratch the heck out of arms and legs. Berries are all over the vine in the fall and birds and small critters love them. These plants will grow into dense thickets or patches of briars making it very painful for larger animals to pass through.

Habitat:

Turkey Creek Walk, Niceville, FL
340 John Sims Pkwy West, Niceville, FL 32578

Notes:

Beatrix Potter's, 1902, anthropomorphic storybook character, B'rer Rabbit a.k.a. Peter Rabbit told his foes to, "Please, please, please, don't throw me into the briar patch," which they always did. The Briar Patch was his home, and he escaped for another day of rabbit life.
