Description:

Conchs along the coast of Siesta Key near Sarasota, FL. A species of Strombus, alatus maybe.

They use that chitinous blade on their "foot" for defense and moving around. When you pick them up they try to lash out at you with it. Don't know if this is the exact species but it looks right and makes sense. :)
