The number of warts per spot is not diagnostic. To ID these guys out you have to look at the cranial crests and whether or not they touch the partoid glands.

American toads and Fowler's toads do hybridize, complicating identification, but one of the distinguishing features is that American toads usually only have one wart per spot, whereas Fowler's toads have spots containing multiple spots. That being said, american toad seems far more likely (I worked on a Fowler's toad study one spring)

the Fowler toad from what I've seen, seem to have a much broader gold band around the eyes. But i see a lil of both suggestions in it. So many variations of frogs and toads out there.

It's a female Anaxyrus....It's either an American Toad or a Fowler's Toad. I'm leaning towards Fowler's

Lol yea most of the wildlife down here seems grumpy.

I have no idea what kind of toads you have in Tennessee, but this little guy is SO CUTE! So disgruntled!
