Ruddy Shelduck
Tadorna ferruginea
46.0944, 7.07032
Field Notes
Description:
This a follow up on a previous spotting of a ruddy shelduck outside of its normal distribution range. The duck is still at the same open Swiss pond a year later (I am assuming it's the same animal). This time it was spotted with a mate. The last Swiss census for this bird recorded only 15-25 breeding pairs.
Habitat:
Normal distribution range for this species is from south east Europe across central Asia to southeast China.
Notes:
Photographed on a dark day with the rain pouring down, hence the use of flash light.
