Sparrowhawk
Accipiter nisus
52.0778, 0.587597
Field Notes
Description:
Female Sparrowhawk sitting on my fence, Suffolk, England
Habitat:
In the UK it is found everywhere, except for parts of the Scottish Highlands, the Western Isles and Shetland. It is found in woodlands, along hedgerows and in parks and gardens. In winter may be seen in more open areas such as salt marshes adjacent to woodland. Usually seen flying fast and low in pursuit of prey, or soaring high on rounded wings. (RSPB WEB)
Notes:
We were lucky enough to be visited by this magnificent bird in March this year, she sat atop our fence watching the Bluetits & Great Tits on our garden feeders - we suspect she has also been the day before as we found "evidence" of her having been: a huge pile of feathers and not much else.
