Field Notes

Description:

The Common moorhen has a red facial shield and yellowish feet. The feet are not webbed. Other than the undertail, the plumage is very dark.

Habitat:

Widespread in freshwater wetlands. Spotted in the tropical south.

Notes:

The Common Moorhen is protected under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act.

Thanks! The Migratory Bird Treaty Act (US) and the reciprocal treaties from other counties cover many birds. I get the comment about people not knowing often which is why I try to add it when applicable.
This is a good photo of the Moorhen! I did not know they are protected!
