Field Notes

Description:

A huge hornet, which I spotted in my short stay in Belgium. He/she was killed by a brutal act, though I cared more about the hornet...which was unfortunately dead. The size was enormous for what I was used to see. To illustrate; I put her corpse next to a 5 cent coin. Pretty rare in my homecountry.

hmm, I´d say it is an european hornet - Vespa crabro... though Wiki says that the european hornet isn´t that hairy, the asian one is more hairy oh head and thorax and on the abdomen as well
Looks like a Japanese Giant Hornet Vespa mandarinia
