Field Notes

Description:

Approx 2 mtrs long 70-80cm at the shoulder - A large cat with white to orange and black spotted colouring - a powerful preditor of deer, monkey and wild pig. An excellent tree climber.

Habitat:

In South Africa a wide distribution - coasts, savanna to hill country.

This was in a park called Tshukudu connected to the southern part of Kruger National park. They had been there many years and took in cubs and other animals that were orphaned by hunters or other preditors. The park was open into Kruger on the East side.

Notes:

Working in South Africa with parks close-by at weekends and holidays we visited with families.

Thanks Trapsuutjie - I photographed this with a Canon EOS digital and Sigma 300mm zoom standing on the top of a guides truck - there was a family below me with a baby. It was suggested the leopard could see and smell a meal because of the wind direction.
Great spotting! Would you please join the "Kruger National Park Mission" and add your spotting to our mission? http://www.projectnoah.org/missions/8322205
We had child in the back of the old Landrover and the Leopard was focussed on her - I got right behind (bit like the goat that hunters use) her.
WOW.. I think he hates paparazzies...
