Field Notes

Description:

Yellow wings with black stripes, a thin black border around the upper edge and a thick black border around the lower edge. Yellow & black body.

Habitat:

Feeding on the nectar of Joe Pye weed in the yard of my suburban home in an older neighborhood with mature trees.

Notes:

One evening we discovered a dill plant in our yard covered with caterpillars. The next day they were gone. This weekend there were six brand new Yellow Tiger Swallowtail butterflies dancing about our yard.
