Description:
This medium heron was out early in the morning. While the pictures are not great, one can clearly see the white lower face, black streak across the eye area, and the lighter plumage at the top of the head. The legs are yellow/orange.
Habitat:
Southern swamps and coasts, feeding especially on crustaceans. Rests in trees or near marshes. This early bird is in an area known for a variety of crustaceans.
Notes:
The Yellow-crowned Night Heron is protected under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act.
