I'm pretty sure it's zebra mussels. I found them in the Rhine, too, they looked pretty much the same... Thanks!
How did the shape look like? Was it a triangula and under the dirth they had a structur "zebra like"?: Dreissena polymorpha (zebra mussel) Was it found nearby a river/creek ?: Unio crassus (thick shelled river mussel) or... When I see how they are gorwn in bulk of mussels I think its the "Dreissena polymorpha (zebra mussel)".
