Description:

Large spider, up to 30-40mm in length.

Habitat:

Common in gardens, favours well-vegetated areas.

Notes:

Also called cross spider. Builds orb webs. This one has just caught its breakfast!

I emailed the photo to a guy who specialises in European spiders and he said it was most likely that, though without being able to see the back, he wasn't 100% sure.
