Description:

Looks like gnome plant, except taller, in smaller clumps and dark beet red

Notes:

Last year I saw these, indian pipe and dutchman's pipe all in the month of May. This year it wasn't for another 6-8 weeks before they started coming up and I didn't see these at all.

I think so too - I've seen them in California and they were a slightly different color, but this was definitely an area that had manzanita

I think Amber's right. It really does look like a pine cone in some photos. What a cool plant!

I saw a very similar one, though not the same color. I'm saw it emerging and then later in fruit. I missed the flowering stage. I'm going to post it now.

That's what I said when I saw it. I'm sorry I couldn't find any this year. The weather here has been strange
