Field Notes

Description:

Has the head and body looking like a dragonfly, rests with wings folded back and has antenna. Not a dragonfly, nor a damselfly.. crossbreed? :P

Species ID Suggestions

Myrmeliontidae (Neuroptera)

Owlfly

Glyptobasis sp.

Comments (7)

It's an Owlfly (Ascalaphidae), they are very closely related to the antlions. Be careful of it as it will bite. They still retain their aggressiveness even though they reached adulthood.
I learn something everyday, I thought the antlion larva was the adult!
Well, that's just a guess. The one in your picture has almost butterfly-like antennae.
oh! its an antlion adult? i've never actually seen one.. until today! haha. thanks!
