Description:

Adult male cicada, measuring about 3 cm in length. Only males produce the well-known calling sounds. Their lifespan as adults lasts only about a month and a half for breeding, the larvae will live for several years underground, with some species sometimes up to 17 years!

Notes:

Found this one on a tree in the picturesque town of Cortona in Tuscany where it was making loud noise with his fellow cicadas.
