Field Notes

Habitat:

coastal temperate rain forest, at the edges and the understory of spruce, hemlock, Douglas fir, red alder forest.

Notes:

One of the first shrub/trees to pop up when an area is cleared. It doesn't live terribly long. Birds love the berries, but they are not sweet to our tastes.
