Field Notes

Description:

This crab was spotted at low tide from a raised walkway (indicating that the area should normally be wet) around mangroves along the intracoastal waterway. As the crabs heard the footsteps on the walkway, they would all scatter into their holes. If you stood still and were quiet, they would re-emerge for their photo shoot.

Habitat:

East coast of North America and the Gulf of Mexico. This one was spotted in a mangrove swamp, gulf coast of FL, tropical south.
