Description:

Red tubular flower with white stamen. Grows on long green stalks with pointed leaves.

Habitat:

Dry grassy/chaparral area along dirt trail about 7000 ft elevation at Camp Mataguay

Thank you for the ID MiguelDelSol! This one has really been bugging me since it's such a common looking flower :)
Flowers of America aren't my speciality at all, but this looks like a cuphea. The flowers are very tecomaria-ish, but the plant as a whole definitely looks like cuphea. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cuphea Though I could be wrong! :)
