Field Notes

Description:

Northern Mockingbirds are common from Southern U.S. through Northern Mexico and parts of the Caribbean. These chicks are about 5 days old. They were killed by a predator shortly after these pictures and video were taken.

Habitat:

Nest was built in a suburban yard in a tangle of Coral Honeysuckle (Lonicera sempervirens) vine, directly next to our back porch.

Notes:

While Northern Mockingbirds can be very aggressive and territorial during mating season, these birds were very tolerant of us, especially as we did our best to keep our distance. See more pictures here:

neat shot...let keep track of their stages of growth
I guess polyglot is latin for mimic or speaker who uses many languages - unfortunately I have not heard one of 16 years in the US.
