Rusty brown with obvious markings, about 1 1/2 inches wide and 2 1/2 ft long with a triangular head

Southern copperhead

A. c. contortrix

This is a Northern Copperhead (Agkistrodon contortrix mokasen.) It is the most common subspecies found in TN. The Southern is only found in extreme west TN.
It is indeed a Copperhead, Agkistrodon contortrix. Not sure of the subspecies there.
