Field Notes

Description:

Orange & black stained-glass pattern on wings edged with white dots. White dots on black body, too.

Habitat:

Feeding on the milkweed plant in my garden.

Notes:

This is the first monarch butterfly we've seen in our neighborhood this season. We were driving home from karate class, and my daughter saw it fluttering. "Look Mom, a Monarch!" I ran in for my camera and was able to snap one shot before it flew off again.
