Field Notes

Description:

fat body, wide "face," green and back "arched" markings, wings about twice as long as body. Top photo is the shell it crawled out of. Amazing.

Habitat:

in this case... the urban forest of Chicagoland...

Notes:

I know it's an annual cicada, in the order of homoptera, but what species?

Check out the youtube timelapse video of a cicada emerging from its shell (attached in the Project Noah form)
