Wandered the woodlands connected the college grounds found this - think its gall caused by an insect - IDEAS?

Habitat:

Cedar like bush / tree Edge of woodland by a stream.

Cedar-apple Rust

Gymnosporangium juniperi-virginianae

Wow thanks Scott. I have seen these previosly and didn't have the forum to discover the cause. I am glad they don't spray their trees at the college.
Cedar-apple Rust fungus. If you catch it at just the right time, with the right amount of humidity, it will sprout gelatinous orange tentacles and release its spores. It has a very complicated life cycle involving juniper/red cedar and members of the apple family.
