Field Notes

Description:

Black and white head with red spot at back of head. Barred outer tail feathers. Smaller than the Hairy. He is working on the wood of my Kumquat bush quite low to the ground.

Habitat:

He loves the dead or dying wood that I have in my garden and will frequently continue working above me if I am pulling weeds. This time I had to scare him, because Clancy my cat became interested and he didn"t seem to recognize the threat.
