Field Notes

Description:

Several photos of Mycalesis sp."browns" (Nymphalidae, Satyrinae) that were swarming about a compost pile. More than one species of the genus may be present. http://www.papua-insects.nl/insect%20orders/Lepidoptera/Nymphalidae/Nym…

Habitat:

Observed in a large semi-urban yard/garden next to a patch of disturbed remnant forest.

Notes:

There were several of these butterflies attracted to some fruit waste and I couldn't get any clear shots because of all of the activity so I asked my wife to photograph them with a telephoto lens. [In one photo they are with a blue-banded eggfly (Hypolimnas alimena)].
