Description:

Individual in the Aquifoliaceae family. The fruits of this holly are red and favored by birds in the area. The Dahoon holly will grow to a small tree in a flatwood habitat. Leaves are approximately 2-3 inches in length with about 2 small teeth near the tips of the leaves.

Habitat:

Flatwoods; wetter areas.

Notes:

Distinguish this species from Ilex glabra by leaf size and berries. Leaf size is larger than glabra and berries are lighter in color compared to the black berries of glabra.
