As per my knowledge Nelumbo is climber Lotus plant. Nymphaeae is Herb and this Victoria may be also Herb.
Ha ha, I was speaking about the taxonomy. Both Victoria and Nymphaea are lilies. Lotuses are in another family and another order :-)
Frazier you can sit on these flower's leafs and in Nymphaeae Lotus only Coot or moorhens can seat. Its the difference... ;)
This such a cool plant. Maybe the common name King "lotus" is in use but the genus of this spotting, Victoria, is a genus of "water lilies", in the family Nymphaeaceae, whereas the family Nelumbonaceae contains the aquatic plants with large showy flowers resembling water lilies, commonly known as "lotus". These two families are in different orders. One general distinguishing feature is that water lily leaves float on the surface of the water whereas lotus leaves are above the water's surface. I just posted some beautiful but less spectacular lilies myself at http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/7474906.
This Lotus is biggest surprise from Amazonian empire..!! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amazon_Rainforest
