Looks nearby to a juvenile black crowned night heron http://www.birdcapemay.org/gallery/main.php/birds+of+cape+may/Wading+Birds/herons+and+egrets/Black-crowned+Night+Heron_+juvenile-1st+winter.jpg.html
Thanks. It definitely looks mostly like a juvenile black-crowned night heron more than anything right now. The defining features of this bird I've captured is the yellow legs, white horizontal streak on the head that passes through the eye, and the white spots on the wings.
I think you're right about the juvenile heron, but you could also look at the black-crown night heron (a tough call without more detail).
I at first thought this might be an American Bittern but the patterning on the back isn't quite right, as well as the habitat. I suspect it could be a juvenile Yellow-crowned Night Heron or Green Heron but it's hard to tell. My friend who was with me also shot a photo of the same bird, which can be seen here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/brhefele/5982255472/in/photostream/
