Field Notes

Description:

Closely related to the mildly venomous Hobo spider. The domestic house spider is common in Europe, and recognised primarily by the characteristic funnel-web they build, which starts wide and elaborate and ends in a narrow funnel that the spider itself uses to hide from predators, and also drag prey into (seen in this picture).
