Description:

Very similar to other sumac species, but with bright red petioles.

Habitat:

Fen

Notes:

Poison sumac contains the same oil, urushiol, that's found in poison ivy and poison oak, which causes an itchy rash on contact. So avoid touching it. Found at Cedar Bog State Nature Preserve in Ohio.

Yes, staghorn sumac has red petioles as well. In my experience, however, they're not as vibrant as poison sumac's. I've seen staghorn sumac's petioles and noted their red color, but with poison sumac, it's in your face and bright red when I've encountered it.
